  3. To make the students fit for the current job market.

 

OVERVIEW

 

            The department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of Duliajan Girls’ College. The department was established in 1992 with a very few students both in Pre Degree level (presently known as Higher Secondary level) and in Degree level (presently known as TDC level) operating with core subjects only. The founder teacher of the department was Mrs. Neera Nath and later joined by Mrs. Pronita Kotoky. Major course was introduced in the year 1997 and the department was one of the first to receive permission and concurrence from the government for major course in 1997. Some other teachers namely Mr. Manoj Tamuli, Mrs. Rashmi Saikia and Mrs. Rumi Bharali also offered their service either in permanent post or in leave vacancy. Presently the faculty members comprise of Dr. Deepika Dutta Saikia (HOD), Dr. Moromi Chetia Phukan and Mrs. Himadrika Tamuli.

 

            The enrolment size of the department in Economics is considerably small, ranging from 3 to 9 per year. However, some of the students have shown satisfactory academic performance since inception in both H.S. and Degree standards. It is worth mentioning in this context that Ms. Debajani Bora, a student of this department became the best graduate of the college in the year 2013.  The department is also fortunate to mention that in the year 2014, all the students of the department secured 1st class in final year degree examination.

 

            Economics department is also successfully conducting a skill-base course in Tourism and Travel Management since 2011. Moreover the department has also introduced a philanthropic Certificate Course of 6 months duration on Travel Consultancy since 2018 and has got good response from the students.  This is to be noted that the Tourism and Travel Management course has been discontinued w.e.f. 2021 – 22 and a skill enhancement course has been introduced as per university syllabus for its major as well as non major students.
